About the position

AECOM is seeking to hire a highly skilled Data Center Technical Lead for our US Data Center practice. The candidate will oversee and drive the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete data center design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules, and budgets of the projects. This role requires coordination with architects, engineers, and contractors to develop and implement Architectural, Civil & Structural (ACS) strategies and plans for building access control and security systems. The Data Center Technical Lead will collaborate with the design team to integrate ACS components into the building's infrastructure and ensure compatibility with other MEP systems in the data center. In this position, the candidate will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including MEP engineers, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors, to coordinate the design, installation, and maintenance of MEP systems, which include HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, Building Management Systems (BMS), Energy Performance Management Systems (EPMS), security, and telecom systems. The role involves ensuring seamless integration and proper functioning of these systems throughout the design and construction life cycle of the data center project. The Data Center Technical Lead will review ACS and MEP design drawings, specifications, and plans to identify potential conflicts, errors, or issues. They will coordinate with the design team to resolve any conflicts or discrepancies and ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and industry standards. Additionally, the candidate will assist in the development and management of project schedules, budgets, and resources related to ACS and MEP systems in data centers, monitoring project progress and providing regular updates to the project team. Conducting regular quality assurance and quality control sessions/audits is essential to ensure that ACS and MEP deliverables meet client requirements while following the stage gate QA/QC process. The candidate will also identify and resolve technical issues and challenges related to ACS and MEP systems during the design, execution, commissioning, and handover stages, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to develop innovative solutions and ensure the smooth operation of these systems within the data center. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation related to ACS and MEP systems, including design logs, drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), and project correspondence, is a critical responsibility. The Data Center Technical Lead will prepare regular progress reports and participate in project meetings to provide updates on ACS and MEP coordination activities. Ensuring compliance with all relevant building codes, regulations, and safety standards for ACS and MEP systems in data centers is paramount, as is implementing safety in design and promoting a safe working environment by identifying potential hazards or risks associated with the systems involved. Demonstrating strong leadership skills to motivate and manage project teams, promote collaboration, resolve conflicts, and facilitate effective teamwork is essential. The ability to delegate tasks, provide clear directions, and mentor team members is important for project success. The candidate will also be responsible for providing architectural guidance, calculations, analysis, studies, and recommendations for a specialized segment of the Architectural Discipline within the schedules and budget of an assigned project. They may manage various size groups of architects, designers, and/or specialists, and may work on modest size projects or assist Project Architectural or Engineering Managers with higher grades.
