About the position

As a Data Center Technician at Amazon Data Services, Inc., you will play a crucial role in maintaining the operational integrity of AWS's global infrastructure. This position requires a strong foundation in IT, with an emphasis on technical troubleshooting and remediation. You will be part of a diverse team that includes software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, and security experts, all working together to ensure that AWS data centers operate at the highest standards of safety and security. Your responsibilities will include troubleshooting various operating systems, resolving infrastructure issues, and creating documentation for the technologies you support. You will also be expected to convey standard operating procedures (SOPs) to junior staff and act as an escalation point for them when necessary. In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute small projects independently while collaborating with your manager on larger local projects. The position may involve rotating shifts, including 3, 4, or 5 day/night work weeks, depending on business needs. You will also be required to maintain an active Top Secret security clearance and be a US Citizen. The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring you to adapt to changing demands while ensuring that our customers have continual access to the cloud services they rely on. You will be encouraged to innovate and make decisions independently, while also being receptive to direction when provided. Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues related to operating systems and hardware.
  • Create and maintain documentation on supported technologies.
  • Convey standard operating procedures (SOPs) to junior staff.
  • Act as an escalation point for junior technicians.
  • Execute small projects independently and assist in planning larger projects with management.
  • Support the installation and maintenance of data center equipment, including racking and stacking.
  • Manage cable organization and infrastructure within the data center.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher in an IT-related field or equivalent professional/military experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in computer hardware and technical troubleshooting.
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above.
  • Experience with AWS Infrastructure Services and data center operations.
  • Familiarity with IT hardware concepts such as RAID, SAN, and x86 architecture.
  • Proficiency in Linux administration and command line interface.

Nice-to-haves

  • Networking experience with CCNA and/or Network+ certifications.
  • Experience with CISCO, Juniper, and other networking devices.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Perl, Python, and Bash.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and OSI model.
