About the position

The Data Center Technician (DCT) plays a crucial role in the operation and maintenance of data center equipment, ensuring high service quality and efficiency. This position involves preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning equipment while providing guidance to other technicians. The DCT is integral to the Cloud Operation & Innovation (CO+I) team, which supports major online services and focuses on employee development and sustainability in data center operations.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an applied understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning equipment.
  • Proactively share relevant information to enable efficient workflow and mitigate the impact of changes in the work area.
  • Comply with Data Center Service business unit and service-level policies, procedures, and deadlines.
  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently while meeting or exceeding established Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Prepare, stage, set up, and perform startup and shutdown of equipment according to specific instructions.
  • Perform post-execution quality checks and verify proper setup according to safety protocols and deployment standards.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues following standard procedures, quickly identifying causes and replacing faulty components with minimal disruption.
  • Provide guidance to technicians troubleshooting issues.
  • Decommission hardware for implementation changes following standard procedures with minimal guidance.
  • Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate management units.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • 1+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • Ability to meet customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • 2+ years of experience in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 data center environment.
  • Applicable certifications such as CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Data Center Foundation Certification (DCFC), etc.
