Genesis10 is currently seeking a Data Center Technician (Day Shift) for our client located in Hillsboro, OR. This is a 12-month + contract position. As a Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for troubleshooting console connectivity issues, server power supply related issues, and network connectivity issues. You will assist Level 1 associate data center technicians with the installation and troubleshooting of new SSDs and NVMe drives into existing servers. Additionally, you will mentor associate data center technicians and assist them with various server maintenance tasks as necessary. This position will work directly with contracted Associate Data Center Technicians and Senior Data Center Technicians who are responsible for all hardware break-fix activities, ensuring that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met. You will also collaborate with full-time engineers as points of escalation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic hardware diagnostic and troubleshooting of servers.
  • Escalate complex issues to Senior Data Center Technicians as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot basic Linux OS level issues on all servers.
  • Install new SSDs and NVMe drives into existing servers.
  • Assist engineers in troubleshooting all auto build (Linux Kickstart) nodes that do not build properly (stragglers).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve all network connectivity issues at the physical layer (port flapping, port down, link issues, etc.).
  • Resolve manually generated tickets through cross-functional collaboration across diverse teams.
  • Process (identify, tag, and prepare) all server nodes ready for decommissioning and prepare them for our third-party IT Asset Management (ITAM) vendor to pick up.
  • Assist with any hardware installations that do not fall within the scope of work for quarterly organic growth.
  • Ensure data center house rules are being followed and immediately report any concerns to leadership.
  • Ensure data center cleanliness; any issues with cleanliness must be reported to leadership.

Requirements

  • 4+ years in a Data Center Engineering Role
  • 4+ years network cabling experience
  • 4+ years Linux troubleshooting experience
  • 4+ years server hardware troubleshooting experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Ticket systems like JIRA, Salesforce, ServiceNow
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Linux+, CompTIA A+ or similar
  • Experience with automation and script use (e.g., Python, Bash)
  • Familiarity with networking protocols and equipment (e.g., switches, routers)
  • Experience using fiber testing equipment and understanding complex network mapping
