About the position

The Data Center Technician position is a critical role within our organization, located in Hillsboro, Oregon. This position requires a dedicated individual who will work primarily in the customer's data center, supervising third-party vendors who are engaged in various equipment-related tasks. The technician will be responsible for ensuring that all operations within the data center run smoothly and efficiently, while adhering to strict security protocols and operational guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data center operations, with at least 8 months of relevant experience, and will be authorized to work in the United States. In this role, the technician will assist third-party vendors as needed, performing security tasks and daily monitoring of both vendors and equipment. The technician will engage in site layout planning, network construction, quality control, and will ensure the safety of data throughout all processes. A key responsibility will be to enforce rules of engagement for third-party vendors, which includes prohibiting personal devices, food, and USBs from being added to any equipment. This position is structured as a long-term contract with an initial evaluation period of three months, and the technician will ideally be open to working four 10-hour shifts. The technician will also be expected to possess a comprehensive understanding of L1-L7 network architecture, TCP/IP, switching, routing, and optical communication technology. Strong troubleshooting and communication skills are essential, as the technician will need to analyze hardware and software problems, research and resolve complex issues, and interface effectively with customers, manufacturers, and technical support staff. A+ and CCNA certifications, along with knowledge of power and airflow systems, will be considered assets for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Work in customer's Data center, supervise third party vendors working on equipment
  • Assist third party vendors when needed, including performing security tasks
  • Daily monitor and maintenance of vendors and equipment
  • Engage in site layout, network construction planning, quality control and ensure data safety
  • Ensure third party vendors follow rules of engagement, including no personal devices, food, or USBs added to equipment

Requirements

  • 8+ months of experience in a Data Center
  • Authorized to work in the US
  • Experience with leading a data center team
  • Knowledge of L1-L7 network architecture, TCP/IP, Switching, Routing, and Optical communication technology
  • Experience installing servers and their components including installing boards, cards, hard drives, and a diverse number of software products
  • Strong troubleshooting and communication skills to analyze hardware and software problems
  • Ability to diagnose data communications problems using specialized tools, test equipment, and software utilities
  • Extensive experience interacting with both coworkers and customers
  • A+ and CCNA certifications; and/or training from applicable hardware and software manufacturers will be an asset
  • Knowledge of power and air flow systems will be an asset
