About the position

The Data Center Technician / Facilities Technician role at Siemens involves leading the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure across various data centers and specialized laboratory environments. The position requires ensuring the uninterrupted operation of power distribution and cooling systems, supervising routine inspections, and acting as the first responder for alarms and incidents. The technician will collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to maintain and optimize the performance of critical systems while providing 24/7 support as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the operation, maintenance, and projects of critical sites across assigned geographic locations.
  • Monitor and track non-regional data center (RDC) kW utilization and gather budget planning requests for the assigned region.
  • Support the procurement, installation, and maintenance of non-RDC critical infrastructure in the assigned region.
  • Maintain and manage critical infrastructure across data centers and specialized laboratory environments, ensuring uninterrupted operation of power distribution and cooling systems.
  • Document procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Supervise routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and upgrades to optimize the performance and reliability of equipment.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in non-critical site maintenance, operation, and emergency procedures.
  • Act as the first responder for alarms and incidents in the assigned geographic region, diagnosing and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Participate in the call-down list to provide 24/7 support for critical systems and emergencies.
  • Develop Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) for events in the assigned geographic locations.
  • Collaborate with external vendors for scheduled maintenance, repairs, and installations.

Requirements

  • 3+5 years of practical experience in maintaining mechanical systems within data centers or similar critical spaces.
  • HVAC Technician Certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Solid understanding of power distribution, network cabling systems, and facilities critical infrastructure systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills for effective collaboration with teams and vendors.
  • Familiarity with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools and environmental monitoring systems is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work flexible schedules as required.

Nice-to-haves
