About the position

The Data Center Technician/Field Analyst role is a contract-to-hire position focused on managing, troubleshooting, and maintaining network and server equipment within a data center environment. The position requires a strong understanding of various technologies, including Fiber Optics, Cisco Routers, and Network Cabling, and involves coordinating IT equipment movements, conducting server configurations, and ensuring the health of communication and storage rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and scheduling the movement of IT equipment across different locations.
  • Translating IT and vendor requests into work orders and reviewing outstanding scope requests.
  • Conducting server configurations and troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Ensuring the general maintenance and health of communication and storage rooms.
  • Assembling server equipment for installation and verifying all network connections prior to client handoff.
  • Managing equipment decommissions and re-locations to maximize cabinet space.
  • Initiating power requests with the infrastructure team and coordinating with electrical contractors to ensure service levels are met.
  • Providing detailed estimates for assigned projects and documenting requirements through direct communication with IT or Corporate Services.
  • Monitoring environmental conditions and cleanliness of technology spaces and providing on-call support when required.
  • Supporting building power downs and managing installation requests from initiation to closure.
  • Allocating rack position for equipment installation and accepting delivery of equipment from staging.
  • Testing all connections, making final connections not made by electricians, and labeling all equipment.
  • Acting as an on-site contact for vendor walk-throughs for communication rooms and supporting equipment 'go live' for IT Business Units.
  • Developing Method of Procedures (MOP) for single mode fiber installs and performing quality assurance tests according to specifications.
  • Updating various inventory databases each time a device is visited and performing audits and inventories of equipment in the Communication Room.

Requirements

  • Possess a minimum of one year of experience in a similar role or related field.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Fiber Optics.
  • Proficiency in handling Cisco Routers.
  • Familiar with Router Switches.
  • Have hands-on experience with Physical Servers.
  • Proficient in Copper Cabling.
  • Experience in Network Cabling.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and trends in the field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; further education in IT or related field is a plus.
