About the position

FieldLink is seeking an OSP (Outside Plant) Technician - FIBER to join our team in Des Moines, IA. This position is a contract-to-hire role that offers a unique opportunity to work in the Telecom and Low Voltage Industry, specifically focusing on the installation and maintenance of outside plant fiber networks. As a technician, you will be responsible for performing various tasks related to outside plant work, including the installation of conduit, fiber, splice domes, and cabinets. This role is physically demanding and requires the ability to work in varying weather conditions, making it essential for candidates to be physically fit and adaptable. In this position, you will regularly pull cable in multiple settings such as manholes, vaults, and trenches. You will also be responsible for connecting and rearranging buried copper and fiber optic cable facilities within buildings, utilizing hand tools and specialized equipment. Operating power equipment, including pumps, compressors, and generators, will be part of your daily responsibilities. Additionally, you will need to read and follow blueprints for installation, ensuring that all work is completed accurately and efficiently. Professionalism is key in this role, as you will be expected to follow written and oral communication protocols with colleagues and management. Adhering to safety guidelines and protocols, including the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean job site, is crucial to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Outside Plant work and maintenance activities regularly.
  • Install and maintain outside plant fiber network including construction elements such as conduit, fiber, splice domes, and cabinets.
  • Pull cable in various settings including manholes, vaults, and trenches.
  • Connect and rearrange buried copper and fiber optic cable facilities in buildings using hand tools and specialized equipment.
  • Operate power equipment such as pumps, compressors, and generators.
  • Read and follow blueprints for installation tasks.
  • Communicate professionally with colleagues and management, both in writing and verbally.
  • Follow safety guidelines and protocols, including the use of proper PPE and job site cleanup.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
  • 0-2 years of commercial Data Center OSP experience.
  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Confined Spaces Training will be provided onsite.
