About the position

The Data Center Technician II at UT Southwestern is responsible for supporting data center operations, ensuring continuous systems and facility uptime. This role requires knowledge of data center support principles and the ability to adapt to industry standards and technological changes. The position is full-time, on-campus, and requires flexibility to cover shifts, including off-hours and weekends, with occasional travel to remote facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and responds to failures related to power, hardware, network, and facilities.
  • Analyzes system events/alerts and diagnoses potential root causes.
  • Utilizes elevated access and sound judgment during remediation processes.
  • Responds to system hardware issues by applying diagnostics, troubleshooting, testing, and reimplementation.
  • Carries out shipping/receiving duties to maintain accurate inventory control and asset tracking.
  • Conducts issue tracking and responds to incidents in a timely manner.
  • Runs cable as specified in work orders, including Fiber and Ethernet.
  • Assists with project initiatives and collaborates with other technicians and engineers.
  • Assists with the auditing and verification of data center equipment and operations.
  • Interacts with clients via written communication and phone, showcasing high-quality customer service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in a technical field.
  • 3 years of job-related experience.
  • General IT experience, with data center experience being a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills.
