About the position

The Data Center Technician II plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center. This position is specifically for the overnight shift, requiring the technician to work from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. The technician will be responsible for day-to-day operations, which include security functions, telecommunication standards, customer build-outs, and general site response. The technician must ensure that any data center issues are identified and resolved promptly, while also ensuring that contractors provide quality services and that internal customer demands are met. A Tier 2 technician is expected to have a foundational understanding of telecommunications and data center operating procedures. They will gain hands-on experience with various systems, including mechanical, electrical, telecom, and security equipment. Responsibilities include managing building service requests, completing work orders, and providing exceptional customer service. The technician will also be involved in infrastructure projects, cable termination and testing, and monitoring various systems to respond to any abnormal conditions. The role requires a strong focus on safety and security, as technicians will be first responders in emergency situations. They must adhere to CoreSite's Principles of Operational Excellence and ensure that all processes are completed in a timely manner according to Service Level Agreements (SLA). The technician will also be responsible for documenting and reporting any incidents, managing the loading dock for shipping and receiving, and maintaining a rigorous process-driven team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center.
  • Manage building service requests through resolution.
  • Perform and complete work orders and customer service tickets in a timely manner.
  • Trouble Ticket Management and Remote Hands Management.
  • Complete infrastructure projects including cage and cabinet build-outs, overhead installations, and rack and stack.
  • Navigate and utilize a CMMS system for daily operations.
  • Provide physical security within the CoreSite premises.
  • Conduct regular facility and security tours, documenting and responding to found issues.
  • Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems including mechanical, electrical, and security systems.
  • Assist with managing systems to avoid unplanned customer-impacting outages.
  • Adhere to and promote CoreSite's Principles of Operational Excellence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of experience in facilities or telecom industry.
  • Basic knowledge of telecommunications and data center operating procedures.
  • Familiarity with CCTV and access control security systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal staff.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Schedule flexibility to work non-standard business hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as an installer in a mission-critical facility is a plus.
  • Completion of CoreSite's Data Center Operations Qualification Program within the first nine months of employment.
