About the position

ECS is seeking a Data Center Technician II to work in our Pocatello, ID office. This position is responsible for the installation of various types of Information Technology (IT) hardware devices and cabling in a data center environment. The role requires intermediate knowledge of data center hardware and systems, including the ability to interpret manufacturer's guides for installation into data center racks, understanding space, power, and cooling requirements, as well as mounting hardware specifications. The Data Center Technician II will evaluate data center infrastructure requirements such as rack space, network, power, and cabling, coordinating necessary resources to prepare space for the installation of equipment. This includes provisioning cabling, floor cutouts, and rack rails for the installation of IT devices and systems, performing end-to-end installation of patch cables, and troubleshooting assistance. The technician will also monitor data center IT and environmental systems for failures and coordinate with vendors for repairs or replacements. In addition to installation and maintenance tasks, the technician will be responsible for adhering to data center safety rules and policies, managing hardware inventory control, and providing training and assistance to government staff on technology usage. The role involves physical demands such as lifting IT equipment, installing communications cabling, and using various tools and equipment. The technician must possess a current Top-Secret Clearance and have a minimum of three years of data center hardware and cable installation experience, along with relevant certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate Data Center infrastructure requirements (rack space, network, power, cabling, etc.) and coordinate necessary resources for installation.
  • Provision cabling, floor cutouts, and rack rails for IT devices and systems installation.
  • Perform end-to-end installation of patch cables and management cabling.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance and perform replacements of failed components in conjunction with systems engineers.
  • Follow labeling standards and track configuration changes and inventory information.
  • Adhere to all data center safety rules and policies as well as installation standards.
  • Perform un-crating and unboxing of large systems and gear, and remove refuse to keep the data center clear of hazards.
  • Generate and interpret wiring and cabling diagrams in Visio and CADD.
  • Monitor data center IT and environmental systems for failures and coordinate repairs with vendors.
  • Assist in developing and managing a tracking database for hardware inventory control.
  • Manage and maintain expendable and non-expendable parts and tools inventory.
  • Perform IT and system hardware maintenance and equipment replacement services as needed.
  • Keep Data Center infrastructure and IT equipment in operating condition consistent with OEM requirements.
  • Perform copper and fiber communications cable installations and terminations.
  • Provide timely problem resolution and transition knowledge to government staff through training.
  • Analyze design, development, and implementation of hardware for products.
  • Perform stress and performance tests on computer hardware.
  • Continuously assess vendor/OEM hardware maintenance activities and trends.
  • Read schematics and utilize software to document projects.
  • Provide escort services for personnel requiring access to the Data Center.

Requirements

  • Must have a current Top-Secret Clearance with the capability of obtaining SCI / CI-Poly.
  • Minimum of three years of data center hardware and cable installation experience.
  • Knowledge of National Standards pertaining to Data Center IT infrastructure including BICSI Installer 2 for Copper and Fiber, TIA-606 cable labeling standard, and TIA-942 requirements for Data Centers.
  • Current industry foundational technology certification (such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Schneider Electric DCCA, EPI CDCE), or vendor-specific technician level certification (such as Cisco Certified Technician, Dell PowerEdge Foundations), or higher required.
