About the position

The Data Center Technician II is responsible for assisting with the installation and maintenance of hardware in a data center environment. This role involves tasks such as asset tagging, cabling, and documenting processes related to server installations. The technician will work under the supervision of the Site Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and safety policies while maintaining quality and efficiency in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, movement, and decommissioning of hardware including cabinets, shelves, power strips, and servers.
  • Confirm and label devices, racks, and cables accurately.
  • Utilize a standard ticketing system for customer communications and task management.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety policies while performing duties.
  • Document processes and server installations as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 2 to 5 years of related experience or training.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to respond to on-call requests within 1 hour.
  • Experience with ticket management systems.
  • Proficient in cabling systems (power/copper/fiber) according to SOP standards.
  • Experience with CAT5e and CAT6 copper cables and fiber optics.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware and networking components.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and understanding of Data Center best practices.
  • Experience with cable management and knowledge of running fiber and copper in a data center.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment (if certified).
  • Proficiency with standard desktop applications like MS Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in Data Center technologies are desired.
  • Hands-on experience in electrical, HVAC, and data center infrastructures.
  • Working knowledge of networking components, including Wi-Fi.
