About the position

The Data Center Technician II role at TEKsystems involves preparing, staging, and setting up IT equipment, performing startups and shutdowns, and conducting diagnostics and troubleshooting. The technician will ensure that all hardware is properly grounded, staged, labeled, and cabled according to safety protocols and deployment standards. This position requires flexibility to work non-standard hours, including weekends and holidays, and involves monitoring systems for errors and assisting in testing and debugging programs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, stage, and set up IT equipment including racks, hard drives, and switches.
• Perform startups and shutdowns of equipment according to specific instructions and protocols.
• Conduct post-execution quality checks to verify proper setup according to safety protocols.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues, quickly identifying causes and replacing faulty components.
• Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes, such as memory upgrades and OS rebuilds.
• Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate Datacenter Technician Leads.
• Monitor systems for equipment failure or performance errors.
• Respond to program error messages by correcting problems or terminating programs.
• Assist programmers and systems analysts in testing and debugging new programs.
• Operate software to load, manipulate data, and produce reports.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components.
• 1+ year(s) experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Flexibility to work non-standard business hours, including weekends and/or holidays.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous datacenter experience.
