About the position

The Data Center Technician role is focused on quality assurance and damage reduction for Data Center hardware. The technician will inspect, test, and repair critical components to ensure reliability and maintenance within the Data Center environment. This position involves monitoring processes, assisting site leadership, and executing damage verification and repair tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and reduce damage to data center hardware parts.
  • Assist site leadership in damage reduction efforts at each Data Center.
  • Conduct spot checks of process staging areas for proper handling, packaging, and storage of parts.
  • Execute the damaged parts process to verify and quarantine damaged items.
  • Identify and escalate issues affecting part damage.
  • Provide support for key field campaigns and failure investigations.
  • Perform special damage inspections and repairs of critical parts.
  • Conduct quick testing for re-inventory boards, approximately 100 boards per week.
  • Perform damage verification inspections for parts reported damaged by onsite personnel, up to 100 parts per week.
  • Repair damaged parts, including cleaning thermal paste for CPUs and straightening bent connectors.
  • Replace missing parts such as CPU carrier frames and dust covers.
  • Audit handling and ESD processes and packing used at different touch points in each Data Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical field.
  • General knowledge of electronic parts and components used in Data Center hardware.
  • 1st Level Failure Analysis (FA) ability for electronic parts.
  • Familiarity with typical mechanical defects of electronic components and hardware.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods performing detailed inspections.
  • Familiarity with inspection equipment such as stereo microscopes and ring lights.
  • Ability to use a PC for data recording and reporting.
  • Ability to write process instructions/SOPs.
  • Strong people skills to work with and influence others.
  • Medium to heavy materials handling capability.

Nice-to-haves

  • Quality Assurance background in the electronics industry.
  • Background in troubleshooting/repair of server/storage and networking products.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheets and databases.
