About the position

As a Data Center Technician at Amazon Data Services, you will serve as a primary resolver for your support team, demonstrating expertise in troubleshooting hardware-related issues. Your role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, including addressing data center infrastructure problems related to hardware, fiber, networking, and other associated challenges. With your growing knowledge and experience, you will become an escalation point for junior technicians, taking on the responsibility of creating and maintaining documentation for the technologies you support. When necessary, you will escalate issues to the appropriate resolver groups, ensuring that all problems are addressed efficiently and effectively. You will be expected to execute small projects independently while collaborating with your manager to plan and implement larger local projects. Understanding all aspects of the equipment you support is crucial, as is your ability to innovate and make decisions autonomously, while also being receptive to direction when provided. This position requires shift work, and you may be assigned to one of several sites, potentially including night shifts. The AWS Infrastructure Services team is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring that the cloud remains operational. You will work alongside a diverse team of professionals, including software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. Collaboration across AWS will be essential to uphold the highest standards of safety and security while providing customers with reliable access to innovative solutions. Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, fiber, networking, and related data center infrastructure issues.
  • Act as an escalation point for junior technicians and assist in their development.
  • Create and maintain documentation on supported technologies.
  • Execute small projects independently and collaborate with management on larger projects.
  • Understand and support all aspects of the equipment in the data center.

Requirements

  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above.
  • 2+ years of experience with server hardware.
  • 1+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands-on experience with hardware platforms such as Dell or HP.
  • Networking experience with CCNA and/or Network+ certifications.
  • Previous experience in a Data Center environment, including racking and stacking gear and cable management.
  • Associate's degree in an IT-related field plus two years of progressively responsible experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with IT hardware concepts like RAID, SAN, and x86 architecture.
