About the position

The Data Center Technician L1 is responsible for ensuring the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center's electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems. This role focuses on maintaining processes that maximize customer uptime while minimizing operational costs. The technician will work on various systems, including chilled water systems, HVAC, electrical distribution, and fire safety systems, ensuring that data center issues are resolved quickly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative approaches to minimize operational costs and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain and operate chilled water systems, HVAC systems, and fire life safety systems.
  • Test performance of electromechanical assemblies and electronic voltmeters.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to determine processes.
  • Inspect parts for surface defects and install electrical or electronic components using hand tools.
  • Align, fit, or assemble component parts using hand or power tools.
  • Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Analyze systems to ensure best practices for customers.
  • Provide feedback to engineering on existing standards and processes.
  • Work with contractors to ensure quality assurance for system expansions and upgrades.
  • Track and complete preventive and predictive maintenance programs with the lead technician.
  • Ensure maximum operational efficiency and recommend new technologies for improvement.
  • Manage systems to avoid unplanned customer-impacting events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent education and/or work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities.
  • CPR/First Aid and NFPA70E Certified during employment.
  • Possession of an OSHA approved forklift certification or ability to obtain one after hire.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems in a data center environment.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes, and compliance issues.
  • Current knowledge in industrial safety best practices.
  • Familiarity with data trending and analysis using PC-based systems.
  • Hands-on experience with large commercial and industrial systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a data center, hospital, semiconductor, or power plant environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise contractors.
