About the position

The Data Center Technician L1 is responsible for ensuring the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center's electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems. This role focuses on maintaining processes that maximize customer uptime while minimizing operational costs, ensuring quick identification and repair of data center issues, and managing contractor services to meet internal customer demands.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative approaches to minimize operational costs and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain and operate chilled water systems, HVAC systems, and fire life safety systems.
  • Test performance of electromechanical assemblies and electronic voltmeters.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and technical orders to determine processes.
  • Inspect parts for surface defects and install electrical or electronic components using hand tools.
  • Align, fit, or assemble component parts using hand or power tools.
  • Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems including Mechanical, Electrical, and Fire Life Safety.
  • Analyze systems to ensure best practices for internal and external customers.
  • Provide feedback to DCO Engineering on existing standards and processes.
  • Work with contractors to ensure quality assurance for system expansions and upgrades.
  • Track and complete preventive and predictive maintenance programs with the CF Ops Lead Technician.
  • Ensure maximum operational efficiency of the data center and recommend new technologies for improvement.
  • Manage systems to avoid unplanned customer-impacting events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent education and/or work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (preferably a data center, hospital, semiconductor, or power plant).
  • CPR/First Aid and NFPA70E Certified during employment.
  • Possession of an OSHA approved forklift certification or ability to obtain one after hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and compliance issues.
  • Current knowledge in industrial safety best practices.
  • Familiarity with data trending/tracking and analysis.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with large commercial and industrial systems.
