About the position

The Data Center Technician L1 at NTT DATA is responsible for ensuring the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center's electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems. This role involves maintaining processes that maximize customer uptime while minimizing operational costs. The technician will work on various systems, including chilled water systems, HVAC, electrical distribution, and fire safety systems, ensuring that data center issues are resolved quickly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative approaches to minimize operational costs and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain and operate mechanical systems including chilled water systems and HVAC units.
  • Manage electrical distribution from utility/generator main switchgear through UPS systems to customer load.
  • Oversee fire life safety systems including wet sprinkler systems and detection devices.
  • Test performance of electromechanical assemblies and electronic voltmeters.
  • Read blueprints and schematics to determine methods and sequences of processes.
  • Inspect parts for defects and install electrical or electronic components using hand tools.
  • Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Analyze systems to ensure best practices for internal and external customers.
  • Provide feedback to engineering on existing standards and processes.
  • Work with contractors to ensure quality assurance for system expansions and upgrades.
  • Track and complete preventive and predictive maintenance programs with the lead technician.
  • Ensure maximum operational efficiency and recommend new technologies for improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate of Science in Technology degree or equivalent education/work experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (data center, hospital, etc.).
  • Current knowledge of industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA regulations).
  • Hands-on experience with large commercial and industrial systems including HVAC and electrical systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Ability to operate hand and machine tools, as well as electrical tools like multi-meters.

  • CPR/First Aid certification during employment.
  • NFPA70E Certification during employment.
  • OSHA approved forklift certification or ability to obtain one after hire.
