About the position

The Data Center Technician L1 at NTT DATA is responsible for maintaining the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center's electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems. This role focuses on maximizing customer uptime while ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficiency in operations. The technician will troubleshoot issues, manage contractors, and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure optimal performance of the data center systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative approaches to minimize operational costs and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain and operate mechanical systems including chilled water systems and HVAC units.
  • Manage electrical power distribution from utility to customer load.
  • Ensure compliance with fire life safety systems and perform regular inspections.
  • Test performance of electromechanical assemblies and electronic voltmeters.
  • Read blueprints and schematics to determine processes and methods.
  • Inspect parts for defects and install electrical components using hand tools.
  • Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems.
  • Analyze systems for best practices and provide feedback to engineering teams.
  • Work with contractors to ensure quality assurance for system expansions and upgrades.
  • Track and complete preventive and predictive maintenance programs with the lead technician.
  • Ensure data center operates at maximum efficiency and recommend new technologies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain one after hire.
  • CPR/First Aid and NFPA70E certification during employment.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems in data centers.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes, and industrial safety best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with large commercial and industrial systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Familiarity with data trending and analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
