About the position

The Data Center Technician L3 at NTT DATA is a pivotal role that requires an expert level of knowledge in maintaining the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of data center systems. This position is responsible for ensuring that the electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems operate efficiently and effectively. The technician will be tasked with maximizing customer uptime in a cost-effective manner, promptly identifying and repairing data center issues, and ensuring that contractors deliver quality services while meeting internal customer service level agreements. The role also involves developing innovative strategies to minimize operational costs while enhancing efficiency. In this role, the technician will handle various responsibilities, including the operation, maintenance, and repair of chilled water systems, HVAC systems, and electrical power distribution systems. The technician will also oversee fire life safety systems, ensuring that fire suppression systems and detection devices are functioning correctly. Monitoring and responding to abnormal conditions in facilities systems is crucial, as is tracking and trending the operational characteristics of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. The Data Center Technician L3 will collaborate with contractors and consultants on national projects, system expansions, and upgrades, while also working closely with the CF Ops Supervisor to manage annual budgets and maintenance programs. The technician will be expected to analyze existing operating conditions, recommend new technologies, and implement improvements to enhance overall efficiency and reduce costs. Additionally, the technician will serve in a technical writing capacity, creating and reviewing operational procedures and maintenance activities. Regular attendance and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Operation, maintenance, and repair of chilled water systems and components, HVAC systems, and humidification systems.
  • Operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical/critical power distribution systems from the Utility/Generator main switchgear through the UPS systems to customer load.
  • Operation, maintenance, and repair of fire suppression systems, including wet sprinkler systems and pre-action sprinkler systems.
  • Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems, including Electrical, Mechanical, and Building Monitoring and Control Systems.
  • Track and trend MEP system and equipment operational characteristics.
  • Provide feedback to DCOPs Technical Operations on the effectiveness of existing standards and processes.
  • Work with contractors and consultants for national projects, system expansions, corrections, and upgrades.
  • Collaborate with the CF Ops Supervisor to manage annual budgets and relay the status of the planned maintenance program.
  • Ensure the data center operates at maximum operational efficiency, analyzing existing conditions and recommending new technologies.
  • Serve in a technical writing capacity for the creation, review, and approval of operational procedures and maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree or equivalent education and/or work experience with 6-8 years' related experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities, preferably in data centers, hospitals, semi-conductors, or power plants.
  • Two to three years as a Data Center Technician L2 in a critical facility environment.
  • CPR/First Aid and NFPA70E Certification during employment.
  • OSHA-10 General Industry Course completion.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
