About the position

As a Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT) Manager, you will lead a team of technicians in performing hardware deployments, diagnostics, and decommissions. This role involves supporting technician performance, prioritizing tasks, and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs). You will also provide training and model leadership principles, contributing to the personal and professional development of your team within Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) division.

Responsibilities

  • Delegate hardware installation and other work to technicians.
  • Prepare and perform hardware startups and shutdowns.
  • Ensure technicians perform post-execution quality checks and verify compliance with safety protocols and deployment standards.
  • Apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise to identify issues and guide technicians in replacing faulty components.
  • Communicate and report incidents and decommission hardware for complex changes.
  • Contribute to issue tracking and client relations, and help collect service metrics.
  • Maintain awareness of key performance indicators and demonstrate understanding of cross-functional support processes.
  • Train other technicians while on the job and facilitate compliance with safety procedures.
  • Reinforce a positive team environment by sharing information and responding to feedback.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • 3+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology or related experience working with teams.
  • 1+ year(s) experience directing, supervising, or managing others or leading a project.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including non-standard business hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 4+ years' experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • 3+ years' experience working in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 data center environment.
  • Applicable certifications: ITIL Foundation, ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC), CDCP, MCP, Six Sigma Green Belt.
  • 2+ years' experience leading diverse, technical, or IT workforce of up to ten employees.
