The Data Center Technician - Network position is a critical role within our organization, located in Des Moines, IA. This position requires a dedicated individual with 3-6 years of IT network experience, who will be responsible for the physical troubleshooting of various network components within our data center infrastructure. The technician will work closely with routers, switches, console servers, and optical transport equipment, providing onsite network support and expertise to all teams operating within the local data center. This role also serves as a liaison for remote networking teams, ensuring seamless communication and support across different locations. In this position, the technician will engage in hands-on tasks such as the physical replacement of optics, line cards, supervisor cards, and chassis hardware. Troubleshooting will be a significant part of the job, where the technician will need to isolate and fix network link, device, and configuration issues. The role also involves creating new RMA requests through OEM vendors for replacement devices and obtaining technical assistance when necessary. Maintaining and updating the asset inventory of defective and replacement parts is crucial, as is tracing and isolating cables through patch panels. The technician will also be responsible for testing and cleaning fiber optic cables and optical interfaces, scheduling and performing network maintenance, repair, and upgrade tasks while minimizing the impact on the production network. Utilizing internal automation software, tools, and scripts to configure, monitor, and repair network equipment is essential. The technician will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including facilities, cabling, and server teams, to ensure efficient operations. Additionally, the technician will perform queue management for alarms, tasks, and incidents and participate in ongoing deployment projects. A strong working knowledge of Linux OS, CLI navigation, JUNOS, Cisco IOS, and bash is required, along with the ability to conduct physical audits of inventory and update the asset inventory database. The job demands significant time standing, walking, bending, and lifting, and the technician must be able to provide onsite support after business hours as part of the on-call schedule, as well as travel to various sites as needed.
