About the position

The Data Center Technician (Runops) at AppTad Technologies Pvt Ltd is a critical role responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems within a data center environment. This position requires a hands-on approach to cabling and termination, ensuring that all installations meet industry standards and are completed accurately and efficiently. The technician will be involved in mounting and installing racks, patch panels, and various hardware components, as well as performing essential grounding for equipment and cables as required. In addition to installation tasks, the technician will conduct thorough testing of fiber optic cables, including continuity tests and troubleshooting using specialized equipment such as volt-ohmmeters and tone sets. The role also involves the installation of various types of connectors, including LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP connectors for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber. The technician will be responsible for terminating simplex and duplex jumper cords, as well as performing mechanical and fusion splicing on all types of fiber cables. The position requires a proactive individual who can provide onsite support after business hours as part of an on-call schedule and is willing to travel to various sites as needed. The technician must be self-motivated, possess strong problem-solving skills, and be able to work in physically demanding environments, including heights and confined spaces. The role also emphasizes the importance of promoting the company culture and mission to all stakeholders, ensuring a professional and positive approach in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
  • Perform testing including continuity tests and troubleshooting using volt-ohmmeters and tone sets.
  • Install various types of connectors for multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
  • Terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords and breakout outside plant fiber.
  • Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets and work orders.
  • Provide onsite support after business hours as part of the on-call schedule.
  • Travel to various sites as needed for installations and maintenance.
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience as a Data Center Technician.
  • 3 years of experience as a Fiber Technician.
  • Proficient at terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems.
  • Experience with Testing & Troubleshooting MMF & SMF systems using OTDR & PMLS.
  • Proficient with tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and cable strippers.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3-5 years of experience in Fiber.
  • Industry Certifications (Corning/FOA/BICSI).
  • Data Center installation experience.
  • Mechanical and Fusion Splice experience.
  • OSP / Confined Space Entry experience.
