About the position

As a Data Center Technician (DCT) at Microsoft, you will play a crucial role in the operations of our data centers, focusing on the preparation, installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of IT equipment. This position offers an opportunity to develop a deep understanding of data center processes and technologies while contributing to the delivery of core infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud services. You will work under the guidance of experienced technicians, participate in training programs, and engage in a culture that promotes professional growth and environmental sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates an applied understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning IT datacenter technology(ies) and equipment.
  • Develops and employs an effective execution order strategy for assigned tasks.
  • Prepares, stages, sets up, and performs basic startups and shutdowns for hardware according to specific written instructions.
  • Performs diagnostics and troubleshooting to quickly identify the cause(s) of technical issues and replace faulty components with minimal disruption.
  • Completes assigned tickets efficiently and in alignment with relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Participates in daily safety briefings and complies with safety procedures and protocols.
  • Provides guidance and/or assists less experienced technicians with complex tickets or tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • 1+ year(s) experience supporting IT equipment or related technology or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology or equivalent experience.
