The Data Center Technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic systems within a data center environment. This role requires a strong understanding of cabling and termination processes, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fiber optic connections. The technician will mount and install racks, patch panels, and various hardware components, ensuring that all installations meet industry standards and specifications. Additionally, the technician will perform testing procedures, including continuity tests and the use of specialized equipment such as volt-ohmmeters and OTDRs to ensure the integrity of the fiber optic systems. The technician will also be responsible for terminating various types of connectors, including LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP connectors for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber. This includes the installation of fan-out kits and the calculation of end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards. Accurate documentation is crucial, and the technician will be required to complete all necessary paperwork, including timesheets and work orders, in a timely manner. The role may also involve providing onsite support after business hours as part of an on-call schedule and traveling to various sites as needed. In addition to technical skills, the Data Center Technician must possess strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills. The technician will act as a liaison between the company and customer representatives, promoting the company culture and mission. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 70 pounds with assistance, distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals. The position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, along with proficiency in terminating connector types and experience with testing and troubleshooting fiber systems.
