About the position

The Data Center Technician role is a critical position within our organization, focusing on the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic systems. The technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks including cabling and termination, where they will mount and install racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware. This includes installing grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required. The technician will also perform testing procedures such as continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables, utilizing tools like volt-ohmmeters to troubleshoot issues such as opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs. The role requires proficiency in installing various types of connectors including LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber optics. In addition to installation and testing, the technician will be responsible for terminating simplex and duplex jumper cords, as well as breaking out outside plant fiber. They will also handle indoor tight buffered multimode and single-mode fiber terminations, and install fan-out kits including buffer tubes. A key aspect of the role is to calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for both multimode and single-mode fiber. The technician must ensure that all paperwork, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, and change orders, is completed accurately and on time. The technician will also be expected to provide onsite support after business hours as part of an on-call schedule and may need to travel to various sites as required. Testing responsibilities include using an OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO to troubleshoot and identify problems across the network. The technician will perform both mechanical and fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable, including building entrance splices, maintenance space, and direct buried splices. The role demands a self-motivated individual who can promote the company culture and mission while acting as a liaison with customer representatives. Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and effective communication abilities are essential for success in this position.
