About the position

Kforce has a client in North Las Vegas, NV that is seeking a Data Center Technician. This position will be onsite and involves working in one of the most complex communications networks. As a member of the team, the technician will be responsible for ensuring 99.99% system uptime with zero defects. The role includes system monitoring, routine preventive maintenance, customer problem tracking, and network problem resolution across all networking aspects integral to the company’s Baseband, IF, and RF Communications, as well as the related backend systems. The Data Center Technician will be responsible for System Administration, Network Monitoring and Management, new buildouts, existing network changes and maintenance, and IP and system infrastructure maintenance. This includes identifying root causes of technical problems and developing procedural and technical recommendations for improvement. The technician will also plan and coordinate the implementation of new products into the production environment, monitor specific system limitations to maximize capacity and efficiency, and perform equipment-level capacity planning and network performance activities. Additionally, the technician will maintain equipment inventory and configuration management records, ensuring compliance with applicable Data Center Standards, Service Management Quality Program, and ITIL standards. The role requires assuming responsibility for escalation and emergency response requests in a 24 x 7 x 365 environment, with occasional work required during maintenance windows outside of normal working hours. The technician will monitor power, HVAC, fire detection/suppression, and local security and monitoring systems, proactively identifying issues and creating tickets to ensure accurate detail capture, following escalation procedures, and effectively communicating issues to customer service and upper management while troubleshooting events in a short time frame.

Responsibilities

  • Involved with system monitoring, routine preventive maintenance, customer problem tracking, and network problem resolution.
  • Responsible for System Administration, Network Monitoring and Management, new buildouts, existing network changes and maintenance, and IP and system infrastructure maintenance.
  • Identify root causes of technical problems and develop procedural and technical recommendations for improvement.
  • Plan and coordinate the implementation of new products into the production environment.
  • Monitor specific system limitations to maximize capacity and efficiency.
  • Perform equipment-level capacity planning and network performance activities.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and configuration management records, including software releases, patches, and hardware changes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Data Center Standards, Service Management Quality Program, and ITIL standards.
  • Assume responsibility for escalation and emergency response requests in a 24 x 7 x 365 environment.
  • Monitor power, HVAC, fire detection/suppression, and local security and monitoring systems.
  • Proactively identify issues, create tickets, and troubleshoot events in a short time frame.

Requirements

  • AA degree, electronics school certification, or equivalent military training and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience as a technician in SATCOM/Terrestrial environment with LAN/WAN industry standards, working knowledge of TCP/IP, and Ethernet configuration and functionality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Industry certifications are a plus (Microsoft, Linux, VMware, Cisco, CompTIA, and ITIL).
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux systems desirable.
  • Ability to work and manage in a 24x7x365 work environment, multi-task while meeting deadlines, and work well under pressure.
  • Flexible to work varying shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or a mixed) in a high stress environment.
  • Basic electronics troubleshooting skills desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving, customer relations, conflict resolution, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of satellite technology and terrestrial technology (i.e. DSL, WIFI, Cable).
  • Experience with Cisco, HNS, CATV/IPTV and other Telco and IP protocol core network and equipment.
