About the position

As a Data Center Technician (DCT) at Microsoft, you will gain hands-on experience in the preparation, installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of IT datacenter technologies. This role is designed to help you develop a comprehensive understanding of the Data Center environment, security protocols, and data management procedures, while contributing to the core infrastructure that supports Microsoft's cloud services. You will work under the guidance of experienced technicians, participate in training programs, and have opportunities for career growth within the Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning IT datacenter technologies and equipment.
  • Review Process Change Notifications (PCNs) and understand their impact on work execution.
  • Comply with Data Center business unit policies, procedures, and deadlines with guidance from experienced technicians.
  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently in alignment with relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Prepare, stage, set up, and perform basic startups and shutdowns for hardware according to specific written instructions.
  • Perform basic diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify technical issues and replace faulty components with minimal disruption.
  • Communicate and escalate data center technical or safety-related incidents to direct-line management.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and comply with safety procedures and training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ year(s) experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
