About the position

As a Mid-level Data Center Technician, you will play a crucial role in upgrading networking devices within a data center environment. This position is part of a 1-month extendable project that may lead to a long-term role, depending on performance and project needs. Your primary responsibilities will include staging, cabling, decommissioning old devices, installing new ones, validating links, replacing cables, and performing cleanup and reporting tasks. The project requires a hands-on approach to ensure that all networking devices are upgraded efficiently and effectively. You will be involved in the removal and installation of network chassis, deployment of new equipment, and cabling tasks that include fiber, copper, power, and optical connections. Additionally, you will be responsible for troubleshooting network connectivity issues, managing the removal of network cables during decommissioning, and utilizing a ticketing system for tracking tasks. Candidates must possess at least 2 years of experience in an enterprise data center environment, demonstrating a strong understanding of network operations and data center operations. This role is not a break/fix position; instead, it focuses on specific network upgrade projects, making deployment, upgrade, and decommissioning experience highly relevant. The ideal candidate will be motivated, coachable, a quick learner, and reliable, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Upgrade networking devices in a data center environment.
  • Stage, cable, and decommission old devices.
  • Install new networking devices and validate links.
  • Replace cables and perform cleanup and reporting tasks.
  • Remove and install network chassis as part of the upgrade process.
  • Deploy new equipment and manage cabling (Fiber, Copper, Power, and Optical).
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues as they arise.
  • Utilize a ticketing system for task management and tracking.
  • Perform physical audits of data center assets and ensure compliance with cabling and labeling standards.
  • Handle complex RMA and swap parts as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in an enterprise data center environment.
  • Experience with removal and installation of network chassis.
  • Proficient in cabling (Fiber, Copper, Power, and Optical).
  • Experience in rack/stack operations and network upgrading.
  • Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity issues.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and chassis managers.
  • Experience in staging, labeling, and running power and networking cables.
  • Ability to unbox, move, and stage data center accessories for deployments.
  • Knowledge of quality control (QC) for cabling and labeling standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong understanding of network operations and data center operations.
  • Experience in deployment, upgrade, and decommissioning projects.
