About the position

The Data Center Technician at Startech Networks is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of data center equipment, particularly focusing on fiber optics and Ethernet systems. This role requires hands-on experience with various types of cables and connectors, as well as the ability to analyze and resolve network issues. The technician will work closely with multiple departments to ensure project specifications are met and will be expected to document all activities accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all activities associated with physically placing equipment as per project specifications.
  • Handle, install, and troubleshoot Ethernet and fiber cables and connectors.
  • Use basic fiber testing tools to ensure proper installation and functionality.
  • Analyze and resolve network issues related to equipment installations and removals.
  • Perform card level troubleshooting and replacement procedures with assistance from control centers.
  • Understand and handle server hardware and software configurations.
  • Interpret and follow detailed method of procedures (MOPs) and engineering documents.
  • Review project specifications to validate equipment placement and cable assignments.
  • Provide timely feedback to site survey requests and document results in databases.
  • Communicate with multiple departments to optimize project scheduling and resolve roadblocks.
  • Inventory, receive, and ship materials using appropriate databases.
  • Document project milestones and submit notifications for completed projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of data center experience, preferably 3-5+ years.
  • Experience with fiber optics and IP transport equipment installation and testing.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and industry test equipment.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and oral.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience as a Field Technician or Field Engineer in the Telecommunications Industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of Fiber Optics and IP transport equipment installation methods.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends.
