About the position

The Data Center Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic systems within a data center environment. This role involves hands-on work with cabling, splicing, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance of network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
  • Perform continuity tests on horizontal and riser cable using a volt-ohmmeter.
  • Troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable.
  • Test fiber optic systems using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO.
  • Perform mechanical splicing with all types of fiber cable.
  • Perform fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable.

Requirements

  • Experience with cabling and termination of fiber optic systems.
  • Proficiency in using testing equipment such as OTDR and Fluke.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and fusion splicing techniques.
  • Ability to troubleshoot network issues effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in fiber optics or related field.
  • Experience working in a data center environment.
