About the position

The Data Center Technician role at TEKsystems involves preparing, staging, and performing startups and shutdowns of data center equipment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and deployment standards. The technician will monitor systems for errors, troubleshoot issues, and assist in the testing and debugging of programs, contributing to the overall efficiency and reliability of data processing operations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, stage, set up, and perform startups and shutdowns of data center equipment according to specific instructions and protocols.
• Perform post-execution quality checks to verify proper setup of grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures and performance errors following standard procedures.
• Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate personnel as needed.
• Monitor systems for equipment failure or errors in performance.
• Respond to program error messages by identifying and correcting problems or terminating the program.
• Assist programmers and systems analysts in testing and debugging new programs.
• Operate spreadsheet programs and other software to load, manipulate data, and produce reports.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in computer programming or equivalent training required.
• 5-7 years of experience in a related field required.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous data center experience is a plus.
• Flexibility to work non-standard business hours, including weekends and/or holidays.
