About the position

As a Data Center Technician (DCT), you will gain hands-on experience in the preparation, installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of IT data center technology and equipment. This role is crucial in supporting the core infrastructure for various online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Azure platform. You will work under the guidance of experienced colleagues, develop a strong understanding of data center operations, and contribute to a culture of safety and efficiency while advancing your career in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning IT data center technology and equipment.
  • Review Process Change Notifications (PCN) and understand their impact on work execution.
  • Comply with Data Center business unit policies, procedures, and deadlines with guidance from experienced technicians.
  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently and in alignment with relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
  • Prepare, stage, set up, and perform basic startup and shutdown for hardware according to specific written instructions.
  • Learn about post-execution verification of grounding, tagging, labeling, and cabling to align with safety protocols and deployment standards.
  • Perform basic diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify technical issues and replace faulty components with minimal disruption.
  • Communicate, report, and escalate data center technical or safety-related incidents to direct-line management.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and complete required Environmental & Health Safety (EHS) training.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by sharing information and collaborating with other technicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent AND basic knowledge of computer hardware and components or IT support (e.g., military, networking, help desk or related field) OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including non-standard business hours such as evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Ability to meet customer and/or government security screening requirements, including a Cloud Background Check and citizenship verification.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ year of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
