About the position

The Data Center Technician role involves preparing, staging, setting up, and performing startups and shutdowns of various hardware components in a data center environment. The technician is responsible for ensuring that all setups adhere to safety protocols and deployment standards, performing diagnostics and troubleshooting, and communicating incidents to the appropriate leads. This position requires flexibility in working hours and a commitment to quality and safety in operations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, stage, and set up hardware components according to specific instructions and protocols.
  • Perform startups and shutdowns of racks, hard drives, and switches.
  • Conduct post-execution quality checks to verify proper setup according to safety protocols.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues, quickly identifying causes and replacing faulty components.
  • Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes, such as memory upgrades and OS rebuilds.
  • Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate Datacenter Technician Leads.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components.
  • 1+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Flexibility to work non-standard business hours, including weekends and/or holidays.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous data center experience.
  • 2+ years of IT experience.
  • Networking/hardware certification (CompTIA or equivalent).
