About the position

The Data Center Technician is a crucial role responsible for the successful installation and maintenance of the Client's IT Infrastructure, as well as the ongoing administration of all Data Center, MDF, and IDF equipment and support systems. This position requires a highly detail-oriented and organized individual with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. The technician will work primarily in the Data Center environment, ensuring that all systems are operational and meet the required standards for performance and security. In this role, the technician will be tasked with installing and maintaining various IT infrastructure components, including switches, servers, and related products. They will also be responsible for the installation, support, and maintenance of UPS and Rack Power Systems, as well as campus wiring. Coordination with vendors will be necessary to maintain systems effectively, and the technician will ensure that all supported hardware and software are kept at the proper patch levels. Additionally, the technician will assist in maintaining technical architecture documentation for the Client's server infrastructure. They will support standards, security policies, practices, and guidelines for the Client's infrastructure, ensuring compliance with established protocols. The role may require working off hours and weekends as dictated by business needs, and the technician should be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds with or without assistance on occasion. The position also involves approximately 20% travel to various locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain IT Infrastructure such as switches, servers and related products.
  • Install, support and maintain UPS and Rack Power Systems.
  • Install and maintain campus wiring.
  • Coordinate with vendors as required to maintain systems.
  • Ensure proper patch levels on supported hardware and software.
  • Assist in maintaining technical architecture documentation for Client's server infrastructure.
  • Support standards, security policies, practices, and guidelines for client infrastructure.
  • Install new equipment as required using client best practices.
  • Maintain client server rooms.
  • Maintain accuracy of the objects in monitoring and asset management tools.
  • Work off hours and weekends as dictated by business need.
  • Lift up to 60 pounds with or without assistance on occasion.
  • Travel approximately 20% of the time.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years IT Data Center experience.
  • Capable of independently running and terminating copper and fiber within Data Centers.
  • Experience with Asset and Infrastructure Change Management processes.
  • Ability to conduct asset tagging, labeling and tracking.
  • Experience surveying data centers and inventorying equipment.
  • Experience participating in Audit and Compliance activities and reporting for Data Centers.
