About the position

As a Data Center Technician (DCT) at Microsoft, you will be responsible for understanding and executing standard processes related to the preparation, installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of IT equipment. This role is crucial in supporting Microsoft's cloud services and offers opportunities for professional growth through training and development programs. You will work under the guidance of experienced colleagues to ensure the efficient operation of data center technologies, contributing to the infrastructure that supports millions of customers worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of standard processes for preparing, installing, and troubleshooting IT datacenter technologies.
  • Review Process Change Notifications (PCNs) and understand their impact on work execution.
  • Comply with Data Center policies and escalate compliance issues to management.
  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently in alignment with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Prepare, stage, and perform basic startups and shutdowns for hardware according to specific instructions.
  • Learn about post-execution verification of cabling and equipment to align with safety protocols.
  • Perform basic diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify technical issues and replace faulty components.
  • Communicate and escalate technical or safety-related incidents to management.
  • Directly perform decommissions and simple changes to infrastructure equipment following standard procedures.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and comply with Environmental & Health Safety (EHS) training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with basic knowledge of computer hardware or IT support.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft security screening requirements, including citizenship verification.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ year(s) experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
