About the position

The Data Center Technician at Vminds Technologies Inc is responsible for the physical layer of data center operations, focusing on cabling, termination, and testing of fiber optic systems. This role requires proficiency in various fiber optic connector types and methods, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and maintain fiber installations. The technician will work in a team-oriented environment, promoting company culture and ensuring high-quality service delivery to clients.

Responsibilities

• Mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding for equipment and cables.
• Perform continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables using volt-ohmmeter and troubleshoot issues such as opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs.
• Install and terminate various types of fiber connectors including LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
• Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for fiber installations.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets and work orders.
• Test fiber installations using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO equipment, and troubleshoot network-wide issues.
• Perform mechanical and fusion splicing on all types of fiber cable, including building entrance and direct buried splices.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Proficiency in terminating all connector types and methods for single-mode and multi-mode fiber systems.
• Experience with testing and troubleshooting multi-mode and single-mode fiber systems using OTDR and PMLS.
• 3-5 years of experience in fiber optics preferred.
• Industry certifications (Corning/FOA) preferred.
• Experience in data center installation preferred.
• Mechanical and fusion splice experience preferred.
• Ability to use various trade tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and cable strippers.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in OSP / Confined Space Entry for splicing.
• Ability to relocate to Kelley, IA before starting work.
