About the position

The Data Center Technician at S2S Soft is responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic systems within data centers. This role involves hands-on technical work, including cabling, termination, splicing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic cables. The technician will ensure that all installations meet industry standards and will provide onsite support as needed, contributing to the overall efficiency and reliability of the data center operations.

Responsibilities

  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding for racks and equipment.
  • Perform testing including continuity tests and troubleshooting of horizontal and riser cables.
  • Install various types of fiber optic connectors and terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords.
  • Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for fiber optics.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets and work orders.
  • Provide onsite support after business hours as part of an on-call schedule.
  • Travel to various sites as needed for installations and maintenance.
  • Test fiber optic systems using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO equipment.
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing of fiber cables.
  • Act as the company liaison with customer representatives.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficiency in terminating all connector types and methods for single-mode and multi-mode fiber systems.
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting multi-mode and single-mode fiber systems using OTDR and PMLS.
  • 3-5 years of experience in fiber optics preferred.
  • Industry certifications (Corning/FOA/BICSI) preferred.
  • Experience in data center installations preferred.
  • Mechanical and fusion splice experience preferred.
  • OSP/Confined Space Entry experience preferred.
  • Ability to use various trade tools including screwdrivers, pliers, and cable strippers.
