About the position

The Data Center Technician role at Robert Half involves managing data center installations and decommissioning, with a significant emphasis on travel across the United States. This long-term contract position offers the potential for conversion to a full-time role and requires flexibility in working hours, primarily scheduled from Tuesday to Saturday, 5 PM to 2 AM.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate trade, material ordering, and delivery schedules to ensure quality of installation
• Manage installation requests from initiation to closure
• Develop Method of Procedures (MOP) for single mode fiber installs
• Review all outstanding ticket requests (ServiceNow) on a daily basis
• Perform equipment troubleshooting as needed
• Deploy servers, switches, and routers
• Install and test fiber optic connections
• Extend circuits from the demarcation point to client's equipment and participate in conference calls to troubleshoot and confirm connectivity
• Install network cables using patch panels and label standards (copper, MM/SM fiber)
• Troubleshoot and resolve network issues using cable analyzers (Fluke)
• Triage and decommission servers/network equipment
• Manage storage of high volume of decommissioned devices, labeling and recording information in Excel
• Implement new patch panel infrastructure needs and placement
• Responsible for virtual database population of devices and connections

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in a dedicated Data Center Technician role
• Proficiency with handling, cleaning, and installing Fiber Optic cables
• Skilled in determining single-mode and multi-mode SFP connections
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel (formulas and Pivot Tables are a plus)
• Prior experience working within a ticketing system (managing a queue, documentation, etc.)
