About the position

The Data Center Technician role involves the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of data center equipment, particularly focusing on fiber optics and Ethernet cabling. The technician will work on various tasks including handling and testing cables, managing server hardware and software, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. This position requires flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all activities associated with physically placing equipment identified in project specification documents.
  • Handle, install, and troubleshoot Ethernet and fiber cables and connectors.
  • Use basic fiber testing tools including Optical power meter and OTDR.
  • Analyze and resolve network issues associated with equipment installations/removals.
  • Perform card level troubleshooting and replacement procedures with assistance from control centers.
  • Understand and handle server hardware and software configurations.
  • Interpret and follow detailed method of procedures (MOPs) and engineering documents.
  • Review project specifications to validate equipment placement and cable assignments.
  • Provide timely and accurate feedback to site survey requests.
  • Communicate with multiple departments to optimize project scheduling and resolve roadblocks.
  • Document project milestones and submit notifications for completed projects.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in a data center environment, preferably 3-5+ years.
  • In-depth knowledge of Fiber Optics and IP transport equipment installation.
  • Ability to interpret and perform tasks outlined in MOPs and technical specifications.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience as a Field Technician or Field Engineer in the Telecommunications Industry.
  • Ability to work from a ladder or lift in overhead rack or grid for extended periods.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently without continuous supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
