About the position

The Data Center Technician position at CygnusPro Software Solutions Pvt Ltd involves working primarily in the physical layer of data center operations. The technician will be responsible for various tasks related to cabling and termination, specifically focusing on fiber optic installations. This role requires a strong understanding of both copper and fiber termination skills, as well as the ability to mount and install racks, patch panels, and other hardware necessary for data center functionality. The technician will also be responsible for installing grounding for racks and equipment, ensuring that all installations meet safety and operational standards. In addition to installation duties, the technician will perform testing and troubleshooting of cabling systems. This includes conducting continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables, utilizing tools such as volt-ohmmeters, and troubleshooting issues such as opens, shorts, and transposed pairs. The technician will be expected to install various types of connectors for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber, and will also be responsible for terminating simplex and duplex jumper cords, as well as breakout and fan-out kits. Accurate completion of paperwork, including timesheets and work orders, is essential to ensure proper documentation of all tasks performed. The role also involves splicing fiber cables, both mechanically and through fusion methods. The technician will need to perform building entrance splices and maintenance space splices, as well as direct buried splices. Physical and mental requirements for this position include being self-motivated, possessing strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in various physical conditions, including heights and confined spaces. The technician must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds, as well as distinguish colors and read small print. Overall, the Data Center Technician will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the data center's physical infrastructure, ensuring that all installations and repairs are completed to the highest standards.

Responsibilities

  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required.
  • Perform continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables using volt-ohmmeters.
  • Troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on cables.
  • Install various types of connectors for multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
  • Terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords and breakout fiber.
  • Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets and work orders.
  • Test fiber installations using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO.
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing of fiber cables.
  • Act as the company liaison for customer representatives.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience in cabling, fiber, data center, and networking.
  • Proficient in terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems.
  • Experience with testing and troubleshooting MMF and SMF systems using OTDR and PMLS.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Proficient with tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and cable strippers.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3-5 years of experience in fiber optics.
