About the position

The Data Center Technician at MCA Communications, Inc. is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems and IT hardware within the data center. This role is essential for ensuring the efficient operation of network infrastructure, focusing on structured cabling, rack and stack installations, and compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems, including CAT6a and fiber optic cables.
  • Physically install and organize IT equipment into data center racks, ensuring proper power and network connectivity.
  • Implement effective cable management solutions to maintain an organized environment.
  • Perform testing of copper and fiber cabling using appropriate test equipment to ensure connectivity meets specifications.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to cabling, hardware installation, or connectivity.
  • Maintain accurate records of cabling layouts, rack configurations, and network schematics.
  • Assist in troubleshooting hardware and network issues as needed.
  • Ensure all installations meet relevant standards and guidelines for data centers.
  • Collaborate with network engineers, systems administrators, and other personnel to meet project deadlines.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a data center environment with a focus on structured cabling, CAT6a, and fiber optics.
  • Strong knowledge of structured cabling standards and fiber optics installation and termination.
  • Certifications such as BICSI Installer Certification, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., work on ladders, and in tight spaces.
  • Experience with cable testers, crimpers, punch-down tools, and other relevant installation tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation and troubleshooting processes.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively with a team.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a competitive hourly wage of $30 - $35 per hour.
  • 40 hours per week schedule, Monday to Friday.
