About the position

The Data Center Technician at BC Forward is responsible for resolving hardware and software infrastructure issues within HPE customer's data centers. This role requires a strong understanding of data center operations and the ability to perform various technical tasks efficiently. The technician will work on-site in Tampa, FL, and must be local to the area. This is a contract position with a duration of 24+ months, with the possibility of extension, and involves a 40-hour work week.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues within IT infrastructure including HPE Enterprise systems, servers, storage, and networking.
• Understand and operate within a Data Center IT Operations environment using software tools for day-to-day functions and troubleshooting.
• Perform high volume/low impact tasks efficiently and knowledgeably.
• Provide installation and break/fix support including component replacement, hardware troubleshooting, and operating system installation.
• Demonstrate hands-on practical knowledge of systems and policies.
• Manage operational tasks including resolving escalations and clearing blocking issues to enable continued delivery of data center support activities.

Requirements

• Basic understanding of Storage theory, Server layout, and Network concepts.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to follow procedures for component-level repairs using ESD best practices.
• Good understanding of the general/technical aspects of the job.
• Familiarity with using different computer applications and navigating software tools as required.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Organized and able to document daily activities.
• Ability to maintain successful communication and working relationships with management and peers of all levels.
• Teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work outside of standard business hours and weekends.
• Willingness to travel for out-of-state projects.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with pallet jack and data center server lifting tools.
• Ability to operate manual and power hand tools.
• Experience with Linux, Virtualization, and Windows Server.
