About the position

The Data Center Technician at Oracle plays a crucial role in delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies within the OCI data center environments. This position involves performing repairs, installations, and monitoring of data center systems while ensuring efficient operations. The technician is expected to continuously learn and improve hardware performance, escalate issues appropriately, and contribute to process improvements and automation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hardware installation and decommissioning of enterprise servers and cabling infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and repair data center hardware and networking infrastructure.
  • Rack and stack data center equipment, including servers and networking devices.
  • Monitor data center environments using monitoring tools and respond to tickets in a ticketing environment.
  • Document activities and create/modify Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Manage the decommission life cycle of data center hardware and inventory processes.
  • Order replacement parts and return failed parts as required.
  • Conduct structured cabling, labeling, and troubleshooting of fiber/copper/telecom cables.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair system power supplies and cabling.
  • Execute small projects independently and assist in larger local projects.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of server, storage, and network hardware.
  • Excellent time management skills and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player and a strong interest in learning new data center concepts.
  • Dependable and trustworthy with a process-oriented mindset.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • 2 years of experience working in an IT environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting servers, networking devices, and IT equipment.
  • Inventory management experience, including ordering, receiving, and shipping server parts.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on business needs and urgency.
  • Experience taking on-call shifts and responding to critical events.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2-year or 4-year degree or relevant work experience.
  • 2 years of data center experience.
  • Linux administration knowledge and ability to run Linux commands.
  • Data center networking knowledge.
  • Experience in data center infrastructure projects.
  • 1 year experience in structured cabling (copper/fiber) and testing of cables.
  • 1 year experience in cooling and electrical systems concepts inside the data center.
  • Experience in repairing and working on Sun servers.
