About the position

Pomeroy is seeking a skilled Data Center Technician to join our team in Durham, NC. The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing and maintaining data center operations, ensuring the smooth functioning of critical systems. This position is specifically for a weekend shift, working Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM. The candidate may also be asked to work the same shift during the week to fill in for out-of-office employees. It is essential that candidates are COVID vaccinated and able to pass a background check and drug screen, as medical cards are not permissible. As a Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining data center equipment and systems. You will perform troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues promptly and conduct regular inspections to ensure optimal performance and security of the data center infrastructure. Collaboration with network engineers and other IT professionals will be necessary to implement network installations. You will utilize hand tools, ohmmeters, and other equipment for maintenance tasks, following schematics and technical manuals for accurate equipment installation. Familiarity with Ethernet, VoIP, NEC guidelines, and Cisco routers is also required.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working in a data center environment
  • Knowledge of computer hardware components and network installation procedures
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and diagnostic equipment like ohmmeters
  • Understanding of industry standards such as NEC regulations
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with Rack and Stack Copper and Fiber cabling
  • Familiarity with Servers - HP, Dell, Sun/Oracle, IBM
  • Experience with Storage - Net-Apps, Dell/EMC
  • Knowledge of Networks - Cisco switches
  • Experience with Service Manager Ticketing System or similar
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with VoIP systems
  • Familiarity with NEC guidelines and Cisco routers
