About the position

The Data Center Technician is a critical role responsible for the successful installation and maintenance of IT infrastructure within the Data Center, including the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) and Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) equipment and support systems. This position requires a highly detail-oriented and organized individual who possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. The technician will be involved in various tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the data center, including the installation and maintenance of switches, servers, and related products. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for the upkeep of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and Rack Power Systems, as well as campus wiring installations. In this role, the technician will coordinate with vendors as necessary to maintain systems and ensure that all supported hardware and software are kept at proper patch levels. The technician will also assist in maintaining technical architecture documentation for CDW's server infrastructure, which is essential for operational efficiency and compliance. The position requires adherence to standards, security policies, practices, and guidelines for infrastructure, ensuring that all installations are performed using best practices. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining server rooms, ensuring the accuracy of objects in monitoring and asset management tools, and may be required to work off hours and weekends as dictated by business needs. Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 60 pounds with or without assistance on occasion. The role involves approximately 20% travel, which may include visits to client sites or other data center locations.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain IT Infrastructure such as switches, servers and related products.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years IT Data Center experience.
  • Capable of independently running and terminating copper and fiber within Data Centers.
  • Experience with Asset and Infrastructure Change Management processes.
  • Ability to conduct asset tagging, labeling and tracking.
  • Experience Surveying data centers and inventorying equipment.
  • Experience participating in Audit and Compliance activities and reporting for Data Centers.
