The Data Center Technician at The Crox Group is responsible for ensuring the operational integrity of the data center by performing a variety of inspections and maintenance tasks. This role involves conducting thorough inspections to ensure compliance with Critical Data Center best practices, which are essential for maintaining the reliability and efficiency of data center operations. The technician will engage in an 'Observe, Describe and Report' function, which is critical for identifying and documenting any hardware issues or irregularities that may arise within the data center environment. In addition to inspections, the technician will investigate and identify hardware error lights, audible alarms, and any irregularities that could indicate potential problems. This includes performing cabinet inspections to check for missing blanking panels, hanging cables, and ensuring that all activities are properly documented with a work in progress form. The technician will also be responsible for creating incident records and assigning them to the appropriate resolver teams, following up to ensure that issues are resolved in a timely manner. Effective communication with systems administrators and vendor technicians is crucial for clarifying problems and agreeing on corrective actions. The role also includes supervising and escorting cabling companies as needed, troubleshooting problems, and supporting new installations. Facilities support tasks such as rack and stack of new equipment, media handling, and processing tape media will also be part of the job. The technician will be involved in swapping out existing equipment, which includes powering down, un-racking, and un-stacking old equipment, as well as the installation and powering up of new equipment. The work environment is primarily within a server room, which may have high ambient background noise, and the role requires occasional heavy lifting of server equipment and accessories. Routine inspections of equipment placed high in server cabinets and racks are also part of the responsibilities, along with coordinating and engaging with third-party vendors for support and testing.
