About the position

The Data Center Technician role at TEKsystems involves preparing, staging, and managing the setup and shutdown of data center equipment. This position is crucial for ensuring that hardware is installed and functioning correctly, following safety protocols and deployment standards. The technician will also perform diagnostics, troubleshoot issues, and communicate effectively with team leads to escalate incidents as necessary. The role requires flexibility in working hours, including potential weekends and holidays, and emphasizes the importance of quality checks and adherence to standard procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, stage, set up, and perform startups and shutdowns of data center equipment according to specific instructions and protocols.
  • Perform post-execution quality checks to ensure proper setup of grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues, quickly identifying causes and replacing faulty components.
  • Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes, such as memory upgrades and OS rebuilds, following standard procedures.
  • Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate Datacenter Technician Leads.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components.
  • 1+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Flexibility to work non-standard business hours, including weekends and/or holidays.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous datacenter experience is a plus.
  • Associate's degree in computer programming or equivalent training preferred.
  • SEC+, COMPTIA, or NET+ certifications.
