About the position

The Data Center Technician is responsible for preparing, staging, setting up, and performing startups and shutdowns of IT equipment in a data center environment. This role involves monitoring systems for performance issues, troubleshooting errors, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols and deployment standards. The technician will also perform diagnostics, decommission hardware, and communicate incidents to the appropriate leads, all while adhering to established procedures and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, stage, and set up IT equipment for startups and shutdowns according to specific instructions and protocols.
  • Perform post-execution quality checks to ensure proper setup of grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues, identifying causes and replacing faulty components as needed.
  • Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes, such as memory upgrades and OS rebuilds.
  • Monitor systems for equipment failures or performance errors and respond accordingly.
  • Assist programmers and systems analysts in testing and debugging new programs.
  • Operate software applications to load, manipulate data, and produce reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components.
  • 1+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Flexibility to work non-standard business hours, including weekends and/or holidays.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous data center experience.
  • SEC+, COMPTIA, or NET+ certification.
