About the position

The Data Center Technician role involves managing the installation and decommissioning of system and network hardware within data centers for clients in the Real Estate and Financial Services sectors. This long-term contract position is based in Tukwila, Washington, with travel primarily in Tukwila and Seattle, and occasional trips to Quincy, WA. The technician will be responsible for coordinating various tasks related to data center operations, ensuring quality installations, and troubleshooting network issues.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate trade, material ordering, and delivery schedules to ensure quality of installation.
  • Manage installation requests from initiation to closure.
  • Develop Method of Procedures (MOP) for single mode fiber installs.
  • Review all outstanding ticket requests (ServiceNow) on a daily basis.
  • Perform equipment troubleshooting as needed.
  • Handle server, switch, and router deployments.
  • Install and test fiber optic connections.
  • Extend circuits from the demarcation point to client equipment and participate in conference calls to troubleshoot and confirm connectivity.
  • Perform network cable installs using patch panels and label standards (copper, MM/SM fiber).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues using cable analyzers (Fluke).
  • Triage and decommission servers and network equipment.
  • Manage storage of high volume of decommissioned devices, labeling and recording information in Excel.
  • Implement new patch panel infrastructure needs and placement.
  • Responsible for virtual database population of devices and connections.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in a dedicated Data Center Technician role.
  • Proficiency with handling, cleaning, and installing Fiber Optic cables.
  • Skilled in determining single-mode and multi-mode SFP connections.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel (formulas and Pivot Tables are a plus!).
  • Prior experience working within a ticketing system (managing a queue, documentation, etc.).
